I'm just smiling inside and out. My new album "Long Pair Bond" is out and I am getting great feedback from reviewers and listeners. I especially love all the personal notes that people are sending me through various social media sites. I know that if someone takes the time to sit down and write me a note that they really mean what they say.

The title track is available at AllAboutJazz as a free download and an editor left the following comment:

"Wow, wow, WOW! So damn pretty. This song has the restrained ambiance of a typical ECM-label piano trio, but with the buoyant soulfulness that makes Keith Jarrett's 70's American Quartet such a joy to listen to. Highly recommended."

How awesome is that?  Or this one by Jon Wertheim:

“Too much spaciness can wreck a good album, and too much earth can, too. Long Pair Bond gets pretty darn close to the perfect balance.” – Adevout Musician

These comments make me feel good. Releasing a CD is a long road with a lot of work so knowing that your work is appreciated by someone out there is very valuable and encouraging.

If you would like to buy "Long Pair Bond" directly from me and you live in Iceland leave a comment or send me an email (my address is in the far right column), if you live outside of Iceland you can order it from my shop. If you like it gift-wrapped and sent directly to the recipient drop me a note. (I ship from USA for USA customers and from Iceland to European customers).

Have a listen:

I am totally thrilled to be about to release a new album called 'The Dream.' It was recorded in New York last year and features Loren Stillman on sax, Eivind Opsvik on bass and Scott McLemore on drums. I have launched a very exciting project that I am calling "Making The Dream a Reality". I am inviting people to participate in the stages preceding the actual release which is scheduled on June 17th (Iceland's Independence Day). I have set up a page on kickstarter.com which is a funding tool for creative projects. Anyone with an amazon account can pledge an amount to pre-purchase the CD, receive unique rewards and help me pay the bills.

The most basic reward is downloading the CD (in any format) while I think the most extravagant ones might be commissioning a youtube video cover of any tune, or hosting a house concert. I am also offering a photo diary w/ CD featuring select live tracks from this year's performances. (read more…)

5 Gateway Albums to Jazz

Patrick Jarenwattananon at A blog Supreme asked a few jazz bloggers to pick 5 albums that they thought might bring the open-minded listener into the jazz of today. However, more people responded, and by following the link to his site one can find samples and recommendations of quality jazz being performed today.

It is, of course, impossible to pick 5 albums that could magically appeal equally to listeners from various backgrounds such as heavy metal, classical, electronica etc. I used to live in Brooklyn, so my contribution to this discussion is heavily influenced by the music I experienced there. So here goes. (read more…)
