Greetings from Iceland

I have some exciting news including some wonderful interplay with listeners on my facebook fanpage, plenty of discussion on my blog, there is a free download featured on AllAboutJazz and I'm performing this Wednesday in Reykjavik.

Lunchtime Concert in Reykjavik

Are you in town? If so, I will be performing with guitarist Andres Thor this Wednesday, Nov 4th, as a part of the University of Iceland's concert series. The concert will be at the Nordic House at Sturlugata 5 in Reykjavik, from 12:30-1:00pm. Among original compositions and interpretations of Icelandic folk songs we will be premiering two tunes.

I realize that for most of you attending a concert in Reykjavik is easier said than done, so I am working on setting up a live internet broadcast with my band. I'll keep you posted.

Facebook Interplay

I needed a title for a tune that I am premiering with Andres Thor on Wednesday and nothing good came to mind. So, I made a video of myself playing the tune in my living room and posted it to Facebook, asking people for suggestions. The response was awesome and the suggestions inspiring. Actually, they were so inspiring that I wrote another piece last Friday to one of the suggested titles. I chose "Long Pair Bond" for the tune I am premiering on Wednesday and "Autumnalia" is the brand new composition from last Friday.

I have also uploaded a little home video of me playing that. Please take a listen and leave a greeting on the wall facebook.com/sunnagunnlaugs. [Psst! You don't need to be a member on Facebook to see the videos.]

Latest Blogposts

There are new posts up on my blog including "5 Gateway Albums to Jazz", "Happy Birthday Thelonious" "The Best Jazz Pianist" which involved an experiment on Twitter and Facebook. [If you follow me on Twitter (@SunnaGunnlaugs) please send me an @reply and say hi.]

My most resent post is about why I chose the title "Long Pair Bond" and apperantly opened up a can of worms when I asked if titles where important. Some readers left very detailed and interesting comments about the importance of titles.

AllAboutJazz.com's Download of the Day

The world's biggest jazz e-zine, AllAboutJazz, chose my quartet's performance of "Það búa litlir dvergar" (there live little dwarfs) as the download of the day on October 17th. You and the rest of the world can download it free of charge here... or as a subscriber you can also get it here.

In case you feel like getting more of this, the tune is from the CD "Songs from Iceland" which is available on my site.
